It was a warm spring morning that greeted the CCB team as they entered the Nelson Paillou Gym in Charenton for their away rematch with second place St. Charles. The game started ominously with a flurry of three pointers by Charenton… 6-0. Ludo quickly took matters into his own hands launching a three from well beyond the three point line, nothing but net, quieting the four St. Charles fans in attendance ; game on!
St. Charles quickly assumed a commanding lead in the first quarter, CCB manged to stay close led by Ludo, Guilhem, and Pierre S. who was on fire early from the outside. CCB finally settled down in the second quarter and started working the ball inside to Eric P. drawing fouls from Charenton. Several converted free throws from Eric , a flurry of baskets from Manu, Jean Marie, Mike, and Mehmet and things were looking positive. The CCB defense was solid but poor defensive rebounding was hurting CCB with Charenton converting several second or third chance baskets. CCB could never get the St. Charles lead under 10 points.
CCB cycled their 10 players with great efficiency but never managed to fatique the experinced St. Charles team. The third quarter proved to be decisive, as St. Charles extended their lead to a comfortable margin. CCB continued to play well, effective interior passing led to several Pierre N. baskets. Despite their improved play, the game was slipping away by the time the fourth quarter started. CCB decided to win at least the fourth quarter which they did by a margin of 12-8.
Points positive : everyone played and everyone scored.
Points negative : boxing out and team rebounding cost us the game
The men of the match : Ludo was heroic shooting, passing, penetrating, marking St. Charles’s best player etc… Eric P. ,returning after a long absence, played a great match as well, despite his fatigue…and Manu came in and lifted the team when they needed it with his interior passing and scoring.
As for me…I had a triple single 4 points, 4 fouls, and 4 turnovers.
